Portnoi Ramil (11.I.1908, Varzaresti, Nisporeni - 18.XII.1965, Chisinau) – critic, literary historian, playwright.
Has finished the University from Cernauti, working after that as consultant in the Writers Union.
He is the author of the monograph “Andrei Lupan”(1958) and of collections “Analysis and appreciations”(1959), “Critical echos”(1963), “Critical articles”(1966) where describes the achievements of basarabian literature, the tendencies of literary genres.
In the literary history domain works much on interpretation of romanian classical heritage. Portnoi takes care of first after War editions of Ion Creanga and Mihai Eminescu, accompanying them with introduction articles. Writes an essential monograph about Ion Creanga(1953,1966), where analize the deep relation between his works and the folklore.
Portnoi is the author of Literature schoolbooks for IX and X school classes and one of authors of “Moldavian Soviet Literature”(vol.I, 1958), “Essay about Moldavian soviet literature history”(1963, in Russian language) etc.
