 MENIUC George (20.V.1918, Chisinau - 8.II.1987, Chisinau), poet, publicist. Has studied in the secondary school M.Eminescu from Chisinau and in the Bucharest University. Begin to publish in 1934 in the revue of M.Eminescu society, after also in other revues and in the journal “Pagini basarabene”. The first poetry collection “Cosmic inside” appear in 1939 and there are remarkable the influence of the modern poetry. The most important books are: “The song of sunrise”(1948), “Poetry”(1954), “Lyrical verses”(1956), “Poems”(1957), “Selected verses”(1958), “The song time”(1969), “Tender flowers”(1979), “The Orpheus autumn”(1983). Meniuc has promoted in basarabian literature the essay style, that he has embraced in his young years: “The image in art”(1940), “The grass of the beast”(1959), “Sun dial”(1966), “Essays”(1967). His works denote erudition, the ability to understand the deep message of immortal values. Meniuc has written also for children: “Stories”(1953), “To the magpie party”(1963), “The midget”(1969). He is the author of play “Duck and ducklings”, drama-essay “Sunflower”, “Exhibition”(about V.Van-Gogh). Meniuc has translated works of F.Dostoevski, N.Gogol, A.Tolstoi… Decorated with State Prize (1972). |
