BIOGRAPHY

Nabi Khazri is a prominent representative of the contemporary Azerbaijanian literature. His poetry is notable for its poetic individualism, universal humane values, romantic-philosophical attitude to the past and present.

N. Khazri (real name Nabi Babayev) was born on December 10, 1924 in the village of Khirdalan near Baku. The war of 1941-1945 interrupted his study in the university and he went first to front and then worked in various front newspapers and magazines. After war ended N. Khazri finished his studies and then worked in various times as the secretary of the Azerbaijan Writers Union, the chief deputy of the Azerbaijan State TV and Radio Committee, deputy of the Minister of Culture. From 1974 he worked as the chairman of the Azerbaijan Society for Friendship and Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries and currently is the president of this society, now called the "Azerbaijanian World" (Azerbaycan Dunyasi).

N. Khazri is a lyrical poet. His poetry is characterized with strong link between the poet and his people and its moral values. The feelings and thoughts of a man occupy the central position in Khazri’s lyrics and these very lyrics reveal the poet himself.
